I've had a blog on MSN Spaces for awhile now, but I'm finding that most of my Spaces blog friends have either transitioned over to something else ie.(DeWitte) or just given up blogging altogether so I haven't been getting a lot of attention. :-( DeWitte has been trying to get me to transition over to Vox for a long time, but I didn't want to leave my Spaces friends. Well, now that they have left me. . . here I am.
I've been reading a lot of food blogs lately. I love food. I'm a recipe whore. And I eat as a sport. So food blogs satisfy me on many levels. I love to cook (when I have somebody around to eat it) and I eat just about anything. About the only things that I don't eat are licorice, root beer and raw celery. I've tried them and they didn't work so well for me. AND even though I KNOW that I don't like those things, I watch people who eat licorice and I'm jealous. Licorice eaters LOVE their licorice and they eat it with such fervor. They're also very generous with their licorice. . . "Here, want a piece of this delicious goodness?" I'm always so tempted because they make it look so enjoyable. I always have to remember that my particular taste buds think it's nasty. . . despite how good they make it look. Dang it!
My favorite food blog, by far, is the
Pioneer Woman Cooks. She is FABULOUS! She has
beautiful pictures of each and every step in her recipes along with her clever and witty dialogue. And it's REAL everyday kind of food. Not fancy foo-foo food. Stuff with ingredients that we've all heard of. And did I mention the beautiful pictures of food.
She also has a
regular website that she keeps updated everyday where she talks about her life on the ranch and her family of four children and her husband, the Marlboro Man (he's really somethin'). She's currently writing a multi-chapter type set of entries about how she went from being a high-pholuting city girl in California to her current status as the Pioneer Woman when she met, fell in love and married her rancher, cowboy husband. She calls it Harlequin-Romance-Meets-Green-Acres and she will make you believe that fairy tales DO come true as you read her story. She does it with a lot of love and a lot of humor. She's definitely worth a visit. I'm absolutely hooked. (If you go there, you might have to go back a week or two to start at
the beginning of the story)
Then there's
Slashfood - another great food site with various authors that contribute the most interesting tidbits of food knowledge. Such as. . .
September is National Potato Month and it has links to hundreds of potato recipes. Who knew! My favorite food on the planet has its own month. I tell you - I'm just not right that such a thing would tickle me so much. Potato recipes! Yay!
It reminds me of when I was younger, right out of college, and struggling financially as most young people do. I remember being so broke that all I had to eat for a week once was a five pound bag of potatoes (I'm not even real sure where I got the bag. I don't remember that part) and everyday after work, I would make a couple. I'd bake one one day. Fry a couple the next. Mash some the next. I never got bored during my potato famine. I also didn't lose any weight either. Damn it!!
And of course, I can't forget
Paula Deen and The Food Network. She cracks me up with her multiple sticks of butter, how she'll FRY anything and those huge ass bites of food she tastes. She doesn't take "princess bites" (that's what she calls tiny bites) - that's for sure. And she doesn't pretend to be anything other than what she is - Southern through and through. I like that. AND she's a bit sassy. I like that too. She reminds me of myself with the relationship she has with her two boys, Jamie and Bobby. And why is that Bobby Deen still single? He's a little cutie. If I were just 20 years younger. . .
Well, with all this talk about food, I'm going to have to stop at the grocery store on my way home from work. I'm inspired to cook up something yummy and delicious.
