Beauty Distorted
I stole this from Matt's blog (I hope you don't mind Matt) because I found it totally amazing. Our perception of ourselves is so influenced by this stuff and it's not even REAL. I think we all need to take a good look in the mirror and find the beauty that IS there and embrace it. We're never going to look like the folks in the magazines. Hell, the folks in the magazines don't look like the folks in the magazine either. I LOVE standing in the checkout line at the grocery store looking at the covers of the rag magazines where some celebrity was photographed while they, themselves, were grocery shopping for instance. . . without all the makeup and the hair-do and the "Photoshop". It's amazing because they look pretty ordinary. Just like the rest of us.
I am no glamour queen by any stretch of the imagination. I'm getting older and gravity has not been terribly kind to me. I've worshipped the sun my whole life, so you can imagine the wrinkles. But what I try to SEE when I look in the mirror is not the mere reflection but the reflection of the beauty of my life. I've worked hard for my family and I love my life. I've got nothing to complain about except menopause. (THAT sucks ass)
I love Dove's campaign and I hope that others jump onboard. It would help SO MANY PEOPLE!!!!
Anyway - I'm trying out this Vox thing just for DeWitte and Jamie. Love them!! I'm still not very accustomed to it yet. I can't find a Save to Draft dealybob which I like because I usually only find about 30 seconds at a time to blog. I mean - geez - this kind of poetry takes time. heehee
